A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds: "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think...
_____ "When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca - age 8 _____ "When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4 _____ "Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4 _____ "Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7 _____ "Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss." Emily - age 8 _____ "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7 (Wow!) _____ "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet) _____ "Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7 _____ "Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6 _____ "During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8 _____ "Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine - age 5 _____ "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7 _____ "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4 _____ "I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." (Now THIS is love!) Lauren - age 4 _____ "When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image!) Karen - age 7 _____ "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6 _____ "You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8 _____ And the final one... Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry." What do sea monsters eat? Fish and ships.
What did the magician say to the fisherman? Pick a cod, any cod! What did the boy octopus say to the girl octopus? I wanna hold your hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand! Cookie is a celebrity at Olde Tyme because she comes here almost everyday for over 6 years as long as Olde Tyme is open. Yeah, a day doesn't pass without hearing "I'll have my order." or "I'll have coffee." That is a mini halibut and fries with a slice of lemon and a cup of coffee with two creams and one sugar. She is polite but humorous. She is quiet but funny. Cookie: I saw on television that people in Korea using umbrellas for snow. I think that's a great idea. I don't know why we didn't think of that. Staff: Yeah, it is pretty convenient and keeps you dry. Cookie: Nobody uses an umbrella for snow here. Staff:(excited) Let's start using umbrellas together! We can create a new trend in Bowmanville and Canada, you and me! Cookie: (smiling) Why don't you start first? Then I will see if I can follow you. It might be a little weird. Staff: LOL One day, it was very cold and windy. When she came in, it started snow. Cookie: Oh, my! That was all we needed. Lovely! This little figure she brought for us is said more than decades old. Everybody loves "our little fisherman" bouncing and fishing. Here is another photo of Cookie and her friend (also our customer) in their twenties. Their bright smiles make you smile too, right? :) We hope we can see them together for long long time at Olde Tyme. Promises© Morgan Gregg Do you remember, when we were young, those promises we made. The promise to be there for each other, no matter night or day. The promise to keep secrets, no matter what they are. The promise to be friends forever, no matter where we are. The promise to stand up for each other, no matter what the cause. The promise to never judge each other, no matter all the flaws. The promise to always tell the other, they're doing something wrong. The promise to remember this, when the other has sadly gone. The promise to always help each other, no matter what the weather. The promise to always keep a promise, from then until forever. We're older now, we've changed, we've grown, we've forgotten many things. We've lived through life, are facing our end, whatever it may bring. We've had our problems, doubts, and sorrows, that came along the way. Yet still we've managed, to keep them all, the promises we made. (gesturing knee height) Take a look at the tiny cute purse that Amanda, one of our customers, gave to us after a little talk about our fish and chips and the animation character!! "My neighbor, Totoro" by Miyazaki Hayao. Informed of the great Japanese animation, she said she would look it up. Her comments: "I am Scottish and my husband Irish. So we know good fish and chips. We find the fish and chips here are the best in the town." Thank you Amanda!! There is a book mentioned about this. You can find the book at the restaurant bookshelf.
